In August 2026 I will be an artist in residence at NART Artist Residence in Narva, Estonia. I will be working on an AR Poetry project called Situated Poetics of Narva.
For Situated Poetics of Narva I will build on my ongoing research into augmented reality poetry and develop a community-co-created book of AR poems about life in Narva, on the border of Russia and NATO. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s Situated Knowledges, where she critiques the notion of a single, objective truth and proposes instead a model of “situated,” plural, and accountable knowledge, AR poems are designed to hold multiple layers of perceived reality.
AR poems are works of poetry with a layer of augmented reality that alters the meaning of the text. A poem, projected on a wall, or printed in a book, or displayed on a screen, can be viewed through a device, and blanks left in the original text are filled in, thus altering the text, and – more importantly – the meaning of the poem. This way, an AR poem is able to accommodate a plurality of perspectives in a single experience.
In co-creating AR poems I hope to spark conversation and debate, and come to a poetic consensus in polarized times.
