Chemical Bodies of Work

Chemical Bodies of Work is a chemical poetry and poetic chemistry experiment in which Julie-Michèle Morin, Daniela Brill Estrada, and I trie to place ourselves in the position of an extraterrestrial using our AI JUPI and imagined the chemistry of the universe from that perspective.

A coming-of-age space story experienced by a hydrogen atom, a potassium-aluminium sulfate crystal, and a sodium cloud, as narrated by Jupi, the humble Tiny Language Model with a heart of, well, sodium, most likely. An exploration of first encounters, worlds clashing and words strung together to describe a blue copper sky.

These mighty crystals fused with our clumsy words are an attempt to describe the indescribable, to place ourselves in scenes that can never be seen, and transcend earthly metaphors in search of a new exoplanetary grammar.

A project of Julie-Michèle Morin, Daniela Brill Estrada, and Bart Kuipers.

It was a lot of fun to co-author poems with our Tiny Language Model JUPI and to play with non-Newtonian fluid! The workshop was part of the group exhibition Extraterrestrial Posthumanism of Ectopia Lab and Cultivamos Cultura!
